Pond Filtration

Multibay FiltrationLike many things in this fine hobby, there are numerous different ways to do things where filtration is concerned. With over 30 years experience in building koi ponds, we feel we are in a position to advise you on the right way to filter your new pond or update your existing set up.

We stock a range of different filters, from the more standard form of large multi bays with a vortex to the more advanced methods of sieves and bead filters, which one is right for you will depend on budget, positioning and your individual pond so why not pop into the shop with your plans and discuss them with us prior to deciding on the right way to go for your pond.

Bead Filters

UltraBead

Bead Filters are closed filter systems (pressure vessel), which are filled with millions of plastic balls (Beads). Because the Beads swim in the water, it's functions are both and mechanical* and biological filtering.

The specific surface of the beads is about 1600m2 per m3(6 times more than a blue Japanese Mat), so the bio film layer around the beads is extremely useful for nitrifying bacteria that consume vast amounts of ammonia and nitrites.

*These filters can be used without any pre filtering, but to elongate the cleaning period we would suggest fitting a sieve or a vortex prior.

MultiBay Filters

MultiBay FiltersMultibay filters are exactly what the name suggests, a vessel incorporating different 'bays' or sections for the holding of different kinds of mechanical or biological filtration. Typically these will have a vortex situated at the front to help remove the larger waste that comes in to the system, this is then typically followed by a further mechanical stage for the removal of even finer particles, this can take the form of brushes or even static K1 media.

Once the water has passed the mechanical stages it flows through to the biological sections where the water is cleaned by millions of good bacteria remove the nitrates and nitrites from the water. These 'bays' will typically be filled with Japanese Matting, Alphagrog, Bio Balls or aerated K1.

There are many types of filtration that may be suitable for you pond, please contact us and arrange a time to come in with your plans, we'll be happy to advise and ensure you get it right first time.
