Bio-Security Explained
Every pond at Avenue Fisheries runs independently to all the rest - by that we mean each pond has its own contained filtration system meaning that no pond water can mix. Due to Steve and Pam's careful planning of pipe work, filtration systems and expertise in managing Koi stocks and pond keeping Avenue Fisheries were awarded the first BIO Secure certificate in the UK.

Avenue Fisheries also have a 20,000 gallon temperature controlled Quarantine facility as well as 40,000 Gallons in 2 holding tanks in Japan which also have a temperature control facility. This allows Avenue Fisheries to secure greater numbers of high quality Koi when they are most readily available between October and March and keep them in Japan until they are required for shipment. All this helps us to provide a good choice of quality Koi throughout the whole year. Giving you, the customer, more continuity of supply. All in all this is why Avenue Fisheries is setting the Standard for outstanding Japanese Koi Carp husbandry - and for this achievement and hard work have been awarded the certificate. |
Please take a look at our Bio Security Gallery to view pictures of our Japanese holding facilities as well as the labs and test equipment that our dealer uses to test the health of the koi.

Every ornamental fish imported from the far east must have three guarantees of health: One from the international community, one from the UK and now, of course, one from the EU. Although all the certificates are issued by the same office and say the same thing, they are charged separately.
Added up, the costs make their way down the line to the end user - i.e. you and me.
We may call our garden pets "Koi Carp" but the officials who make a comfortable living selling us sheaves of redundant paperwork probably think of the little beasties more as "Goldfish.
